Gallery 1C03, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's campus art gallery, oversees the development and presentation of contemporary and historical art exhibitions and related programming as well as the preservation and presentation of the University’s art collection of nearly 1200 works of Canadian and Indigenous art.
We are seeking an Art Gallery Education and Collections Intern to carry out work in public programming and education, communications, research and collections management.
Specifically, the Intern will support the presentation of Gallery 1C03’s spring/summer exhibition by assisting with artwork installation, gallery attending and developing and delivering educational workshops for inner-city youth. They will also promote gallery programs on our social media channels, conduct research on works in the collection to support public programs and communications, and assist with an audit of our collection.
This position will be of benefit to students who wish to gain valuable curatorial research and practical skills, particularly in the areas of art education and public programming and communications strategies as well as collections management.
The Excel Empowerment Centre (TEEC) is looking for volunteers to help newcomer women one-on-one with foundational reading, writing, and spelling, and with group setting conversation. They are also looking for volunteers to help children age 6 to 16 with English and Math. There may also be other activities such as outdoor recreation for the women and girls newly arrived in the city.
TEEC is a drop-in centre for newcomer immigrants and refugees, providing a safe space for individuals to express their feelings without fear of repercussions, providing healing and social support, increasing computer literacy, offering sewing classes to gain marketable skills, and providing a space for recreational and cultural activities to promote and enhance emotional and mental wellness. Additionally, TEEC plans to provide basic English classes to improve communication skills, as well as opportunities for leadership development, small business training, and language training.
The Centre offers wellness workshops, fundraisers, peace days, family camping, field trips, traditional dancing, conflict training, trauma healing circles, life skills training, and youth leadership development.
