Cultural Studies: Curatorial Practices (MA)

The Master of Arts (MA) in Cultural Studies: Curatorial Practices is intended to give students an excellent foundation

This course-based MA offers a mixture of theoretical and practical courses in the Curatorial Practices specialization that will introduce students to critical issues in the study of visual cultures. Historical and contemporary curatorial principles are studied in a seminar format as well as engaging in a hands-on Practicum course with individual placements in partnered art institutions.

The expected time to graduate is 12 months (full-time) or 24 months (part-time); maximum time is 3 years.

 

Admission Requirements

Applicants should have an Honours or 4-year BA in Art History or in a field that provides preparation in cultural, literary, textual, and/or visual studies (e.g. Anthropology, History, Fine Arts) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 out of 4.5. Other degrees and/or experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

English Requirement (if an applicant’s first language is not English): For TOEFL, minimum overall score of 5, with no less than 4.5 in each component, or if test taken prior to Jan. 21, 2026, score of 100, with no less than 22 in each component.  For IELTS, minimum score 7.5.  For Duolingo, minimum score 125.  The test must have been taken within two years of the date a completed application is filed.
