Dear Colleagues:
The end of the spring semester provides us a time for reflection and renewal. I am truly grateful for the many ways our students, faculty, and staff rallied throughout this year. Central to our decision-making was always campus safety. Our district and ĢƵ responded not once, but twice when the situation warranted due to variant surges. Together we found ways to implement new and evolving COVID-related strategies.
In Fall 2020, I hosted a virtual 3-hour session on “Developing A DEI Framework at ĢƵ” where I shared the importance of creating an equity framework that aligns every program, initiative and activity to college-wide diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) goals. In my short time at ĢƵ, I’ve come to appreciate and value the many initiatives and activities that were organically created. A unique characteristic of community colleges that distinguishes us from other institutions of public higher education is our inherent mission to serve our local community. We play an important role in training tomorrow’s workforce and meeting the educational needs of our local communities.
Dr. John C. Hernandez was appointed 7th President of ĢƵ (ĢƵ) in July 2020.
As ĢƵ’s seventh president, it is my privilege to lead a college dedicated to expanding opportunity, fostering innovation, and empowering students to reach their full potential. For more than 40 years, ĢƵ has provided pathways to higher education, career advancement, and lifelong learning.
